About Us

A writer and environmentalist, Caroline Dormon, made monumental contributions to the conservation of Louisiana's natural and cultural resources. A passion for native plants and old-growth forests, coupled with a strong feeling of kinship with Native Americans, shaped her life and work. In the 1920s and 1930s, she was instrumental in persuading the U.S. Forest Service to establish a national forest, now known as Kisatchie National Forest. The U.S. Forest Service donated the land for our school. There, we honor them and her by calling our school Caroline Dormon Junior High.

Caroline Dormon Junior High is located in Woodworth. Our school is dedicated to creating a collaborative, loving, and safe educational experience that is not only academically challenging, engaging, and innovative, but also focuses on growing and developing the whole child to their maximum potential. We achieve this vision by continuing to raise our school performance score to be known as the highest performing non-magnet public school in Rapides Parish, working towards STEAM activities by offering all K-5 students with art and music classes and 6-8 students with Robotics and STEM opportunities, offering multiple extracurricular activities in the forms of clubs and athletics, growing our gifted and talented program, closing the performance gap between students with and without disabilities, encouraging cultural diversity, and building relationships with parents and the community. We know that GRIZZLIES GROW HERE.
